The Account Executive, Animal Welfare Certification identifies, cultivates, and secures new business within industries that align with American Humane Society’s (AHS) animal welfare certification programs. As a revenue-generating position, the Account Executive plays a key role in expanding specific third-party animal welfare audit programs for AHS, (Zoos & Aquariums, Ecotourism, and Companion Animals) within industries that align with these programs: pet retail, pet services, hospitality, zoos, aquariums, and wildlife tourism. This position will be hybrid or remote and based at the DC office, and reports directly to the Vice President, Strategic Partnerships.

Responsibilities & Expectations:
- Build and maintain a deep and broad network of relationships to grow and strengthen the American Humane Certified™ Program.
- Partner with the VP, Strategic Partnerships (VP) to help define annual business development strategy, revenue targets and growth priorities.
- Develop and manage a robust pipeline of prospective certified entities.
- Lead efforts to meet or exceed annual business development and revenue goals for achieving program expansion.
- Maintain detailed tracking in the database, including prospects, outreach efforts, communications, and solicitations.
- Develop a solid understanding of American Humane Society’s mission, programming and organizational priorities.
- Remain knowledgeable and articulate in communicating how American Humane Society elevates welfare standards for animals.
- Work collaboratively with Communications, Marketing and Development teams to develop and implement strategic outreach tools and resources to grow certification programs.
- Work to differentiate American Humane Society and our certification program from other animal welfare organizations and certification programs.
- Identify and attend annual trade shows, conferences, and industry meetings to maximize opportunities to meet influential people and companies.
Essential experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Diversity of sales and marketing experience in some or all of the following fields: animal health and welfare, pet retail and services, hospitality
- Minimum 5 years of proven, successful business development/sales experience
- Demonstrates a growth mentality and hunger and drive to achieve or exceed goals
- Experience and/or knowledge of product certification process preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, advanced degree preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; active listening
- Adept at building collaborative relationships and demonstrating diplomacy with diverse constituencies
- Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, effectively managing competing priorities while maintaining high-quality work and responsiveness
- Experience negotiating contracts helpful
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective and timely solutions
- Ability to work with team members to implement annual program goals
- Demonstrates a strong client-service orientation, with ability to think on one’s feet while consistently maintaining a professional and positive demeanor
- Exhibits sound judgement, discretion, and professionalism
- Adept at quickly learning new software and technologies
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Experience with SalesForce is preferred

- Position may be remotely based provided it is within easy driving distance of an airport allowing for easy travel. Remote and telework requirements based on organizational policy, need, and manager discretion
- Frequent travel (including potential international travel), which may occur outside of regular office hours and on nights & weekends
- Must have or be able to obtain a valid passport and driver’s license
- Occasional lifting of boxes weighing more than 25 pounds
